Hello Lovely Readers~

I’m so excited to announce that we are having a little GIRL!! Bring on the pink! It’s so funny since my niece said from day one that I had a baby girl in my tummy, which she affectionately named “Lilypad”. Who would have thought she would actually be right. Except we have decided to forgo Kendall’s name selection for one that will keep her from being laughed at in school. :)

The best news of course is our baby is very healthy and growing right on track. Knowing that we have a little girl on the way is too exciting! W and her husband have two little girls, so the addition of our little girl come fall will officially make it a girls club at our houses! Growing up as twins we were, and still are, best friends. We think these three little girls will have the same fun we did. And you can see that little Avery (last pic) is beyond thrilled to have a cousin on the way!!

L's DoubleTake on the Peplum Top: Colorblock Style

Today’s look is one I wore a few weeks ago and features one my fave additions to my closet this spring: the perfect peplum. As you may remember both W and I wore this top last month and had such a fun time styling it. I wore it in MadMen style here and W mixed it up with a fun houndstooth print skirt here. I kept it simple this go round with wearing a simple black pencil skirt and some of my gold jewelry staples. The outfit was complete with a stachel bag featuring bold gold hardware. L Has Big News To Share!

Hello Lovely Readers~

I’m so excited to share some news with you today: my husband and I are expecting our first baby in October! We are beyond thrilled for our baby on the way! We will celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary at the end of September, and the baby will be here just two weeks after. I can’t think of a better gift! Stay tuned as I share weekly updates and my fashion adventures for dressing my growing belly. It’s going to be one fun and whirlwind adventure. We find out in a mere 10 days if our little pumpkin is a boy or girl. Not that I’m counting down til 18 weeks or anything! Hey, a girl has to have advance notice for getting a brand new room in order and closet ready of adorable clothes! :)

A Sunny Shopping Afternoon: Boyfriend Jeans + Stripes

Today’s post is from our fashion vault! W and I stumbled upon another outfit we forgot to post later this winter. Turns out we had perfect timing since today was under 40 degrees (you would have never thought we were starting to sweat in our blazers yesterday with 80+ degrees)! But back to the task at hand, I loved wearing this look! I used an easy 3-step pairing to create it: slim fit boyfriend denim, classic blue stripe button down shirt and a faux fur vest. I’m carrying a favorite Coach bag from my collection, called Rory. I’ve been eyeing the just released bright spring colors - but W has been good to keep me from buying one! ;) What do you readers think? A Classic Nautical Day with W...

Happy Monday!

This weekend was packed with lots of fun events: a wedding shower, landscaping our front yard, shopping at the J.Crew Factory 50% off sale…and a half marathon! Needless to say, I’m a little pooped (well from the running/shopping, I can’t claim any of the work on the yard - shocker, I know). The race was a blast and the weather was picture perfect. I must give a special shout out to my college friends that also ran in the race: Carlie, Kara, Bailey and Claribel! I also managed to convince my husband to run it with me. He did awesome, especially considering we didn’t train at all like we needed to and this was his first running event ever. Check us out on Instagram if you want to see a few pics. :)

So today’s outfit pretty much sums up my normal take on style: chic, classic and comfy. You can’t go wrong with nautical stripes paired with gold accessories, in my opinion. I picked up the navy pleated skirt at a 40% off sale at The Limited a few weeks ago. It’s so comfy and already look forward to wearing it again. The outfit is topped off with my new Coach tote (“saffiano north/south city tote”) in this gorgeous tan shade that seems to go with ALL my spring outfits. It’s one of my fave purchases this season for sure. The price point is great too and makes it really affordable (especially with the 25% discount you can get for signing up your email address here).

The Perfect Spring Dress: Orange and White Chevron with W

Lately I’ve been all about mod styles, colorblocking and neon shades. But when I saw this dress at The Limited a few weeks ago, my heart stopped…I HAD to have it!!! Sometimes going back to classic shapes like this gorgeous chevron dress just make for the “oh so perfect” ladylike outfit that you can’t go wrong with. I love how the vibrant colors add a nice punch, along side a flattering fitted waist and pleated skirt that create such a lovely touch. Admittedly, it felt like I should be going to a 1950’s themed dance or attending an afternoon tea when I zipped up this dress. Yes, you too will do a little twirl and squeal if you are lucky enough to find this dress. It was sold out for weeks, but I did just spot a few sizes that came back online, so you are in luck! Since the orange shade provides plenty of talking, the outfit was easily completed with a coordinating bow belt, my trusty nude patent heels and gold Marc Jacobs for Target clutch. Simple chic at its best. I can hardly wait to wear this outfit again!

The DoubleTakeGirls Celebrate One Year!!!

Hip Hip Hooray! It’s our BLOGIVERSARY!

Drumroll please…this month marks the one year anniversary of our first post on www.thedoubletakegirls.com! With over 250 posts in our introductory career as bloggers, we have had an absolute blast with sharing our daily outfits and style tips with our loyal readers. While it’s safe to say we both still remain in the “novice” category, we have learned quite a few things. From tips and tricks, do’s and don’ts - here’s the list of a few things our first 365 days of being L and W of The DoubleTake Girls has taught us:

1. TIME: We both knew that there would be some time involved in starting a website/blog from scratch. But little did we know how much was truly necessary to keep it going. From taking pictures and editing photos, to creating copy and late night editing, the blog has been like a part time job, with both of us still having our “real” life full-time jobs. So after a year of preparing posts, tweeting, facebooking (think it’s safe to say this is an official verb now), etc. we have come to realize that two things are key: consistency and being concise. While we are still working on both of these, it is apparent that being able to have a routine in our blogging activities helps with cutting down on 11pm editing and photo cropping.

2. RELATIONSHIPS: Who would have thought that creating our style and fashion blog would have allowed us to meet so many cool, creative and inspiring people! From local meet ups with bloggers in our community (thank you Engage OKC!!) to forming long-distance relationships with other style bloggers across the country, we have truly enjoyed getting to know this new segment of people we otherwise never would have had the opportunity to meet. We have learned so much from these mentors and can’t thank them enough for sharing their advice and helpful tidbits for running a successful blog.

3. LEARNING: Both of us started this blog with absolutely no experience in designing and maintaining a website. ZERO. For years, we had talked about how fun it would be to have website that focused on style on a budget. Honestly, both of us never thought it would become a reality. But in January 2012, we decided to just go for it! After tons and tons of research, we took the plunge and paid for a design company to help make our dream a reality (must give a shout out to Jordan from Radium3, he is THE best!!). Each and every day, we learn something new it seems. From website hosting to embedded codes, photoshop to facebook, it feels like this first year has been a crazy crash course from “Blogging for Dummies” - and if this book does actually exists - we should probably buy it for ourselves as a blogiversary present as we still have so much to learn! While overwhelming at times, it feels pretty darn good to know that we were able to create a blog from scratch and now have hundreds of followers, thousands of pageviews each month, and amazing sponsors that send us items to review! It is beyond rewarding to know that our efforts have paid off and that alone has made all the blood, sweat and tears (okay, actually just lack of sleep) worth it.

4. HELPING OTHERS: In a nutshell, this is what our blog is all about: helping women of all shapes and sizes feel beautiful and stylish, no matter the budget. I think it’s safe to say this is our mission and what we will continue to embrace for years to come. Life is too short to wear things you don’t love, feel comfortable in, and that make you feel your best. While the looks and styles we embrace might not be your own, it is our hope that we can still pass along beneficial tips and tricks that any woman could use. While the term “expert stylist” will most likely never follow our names, we do love fashion and the art of styling clothing pieces (best known as “mixing and matching”) and hope that we provide our readers with ongoing inspiration for getting the most out of their wardrobe.

While there are many other items that could have made our list, we will start working on the goal of being concise and end our post on one more note: We must thank our fabulous readers for making it a true joy to share our daily outfits and other related tidbits. Thank you for your support, kind comments, and sharing our blog with your friends. Without you, The DoubleTake Girls wouldn’t be what it has become today. Here’s to our second year of blogging!

A Long Lost Date Night: L's Fave Maxi Dress + Faux Fur

Happy Wednesday!

W and I were going through some pictures over the weekend and realized we had not yet posted this maxi dress date night look. As you all have probably picked up on, we both have had a thing for maxi dresses lately. Compared to previous years, it seems as though retailers have come out with a wide array of options in varying fabrics so they are not just limited to a summertime look. This dress is not longer available on the Old Navy.com site (it sold out SO fast) but we’ve included a few other options in the shopping links below.

This dress is hands down one of the most versatile I have purchased this year. The fabric is comfy and the dolman sleeve style is spot on with trends (but not so much that it will feel out of season in a few months). The 3/4 sleeve length makes it perfect for year round wear. While I paired it with a faux fur vest for this particular look, I’ve loved mixing and matching it with bright scarves, my trusty cargo vest, and blazers. A dress that can go from day to night and still be comfy - that’s something both W and I will always agree on!

A Chilly Spring - School Girl Chic with L

Happy Friday!

So as spring normally likes to do, we’ve been experiencing some major temp changes the past few weeks. One day it’s 80 degrees, the next it’s 30. So what’s a girl to do?! Normally at DTG headquarters we advise putting away the tights/hose around the first of March. However, one chilly morning a few weeks back, L decided to pull out her trusty matte black hose. It’s a great way to wear a skirt that would feel otherwise too short - although we do NOT mean that all short skirts can be saved by wearing hose. While we may not be fans of super short hemlines, we promise not to judge you if you too wore some tights lately. Sometimes you have to dress for the thermometer and not the calendar!

We are excited to bring you our “double take” edition of spring styling featuring this color block, peplum top from Sugarlips. It features a bold blue bodice paired with a gorgeous flippy white lower half, finished off with black piping. While W paired it with a classic houndstooth print pencil skirt, I chose to add even more color to this vibrant blue top. Cue the 50s secretary feel with this seamed high-waist pencil skirt, belted cardigan, and top handle bag. What do you readers think? We are loving how versatile the peplum is this season!

A Fabulously Chic, Blue Day - The Sugarlips Peplum Top

The Last Days of Winter: Faux Fur + Teal

It’s officially spring now, so time to pack away my faux fur layering favorites, like this vest from The Limited that I purchased a few months ago. But I got one more wear out of it last week when the temps dropped. That’s March weather for you! The vest pairs so easily with many of my tops, and especially love how it pops with the teal shade of this new drapey shirt from Sugarlips. The blouse is so breezy that even with long sleeves, it will be perfect for spring outfits and even into early summer. While the vest has been sold out for a while, the blouse is still available here.

A Ladylike Office Day with W

Today’s post features a look I recently wore to the office, as well as to a wedding shower. This particular day was a bit brisk, so I wore my dress with my trusty black tights. But now that the temps are warming up, I look forward to wearing this classic Limited ponte peplum dress with bare legs and a lightweight cardigan in a fun print. With it officially being spring, I can’t wait to start pulling some of my classic wardrobe pieces and adding some pep with bold statement jewelry, patterned scarves, and a cheery bag (like my new blue tote from Coach - a post on this new gem to come soon!).

Today’s look features a favorite shirt staple: the gingham button-up! With temps starting to warm up some, I used this wrap sweater as my “warmth” piece. It can be a little challenging to dress for spring when the temps are still sometimes winter-like. But, by adding a classic print and this bright red bag, it helped me feel cheery! I couldn’t help but to add a shiny statement necklace to take this country outfit to the next level. What do you readers think? Thanks for reading!

Does Your Leopard Like Mustard?

Today’s look was inspired by one of my favorite blog’s “Extra Petite” by Jean. She wore an outfit with a mustard sweater a few weeks back, and it encouraged me to pull out my Loft version. Instead of the snow leopard pants she wore, I went with adding golden leopard accents with these shoes. But not to say I wouldn’t want to snag those pants. :) Though W and I aren’t considered “petites”, we aren’t on the tall side either. Jean’s blog provides classic styling tips and tricks that are good for all types.
