Hooray! It is finally here! It’s time to officially share my new studio space + custom California Closet wall with you all! As you all may have seen on IG stories, I have been working behind the scenes on an exciting project that would give me some much needed work space! As a little back story, Lindsay and I have had our blog for nearly 10 years now and with that comes lots of photo shoots, incoming boxes, try on sessions and much more.
This year my husband and I decided it was time to build my own dedicated work space next to our home {thankfully our lot had the perfect size available to build on} to use for all the many things that come along with being a blogger and business owner. We have remodeled three homes since getting married years ago, but we have never built something from the start. So needless to say it was an exciting venture that I got to create my space from scratch and pick out all the details I wanted to be included!
First and foremost, I wanted something that was bright and airy with plenty of room for taking blog photos, try on session videos, makeup tutorials, table top space for computer work, storing clothing and displaying my favorite purses. Lots of windows and tall ceilings were another must. Light colored wood floors were another wish on my list. After creating the initial layout for the space with our amazing builder, I knew that it would not be complete without a California Closet wall like Lindsay had created in her home office earlier in the year! Her wall turned out so beautifully and I couldn’t wait to design something similar for my space.
California Closets Design Process
I reached out to Jerrie of California Closets Oklahoma and she got started right away on creating the most perfect closet wall for me! After giving her my list of features and the dimensions of my space, we discussed what types of items I would plan to store in the area. She has SO much experience and was able to quickly suggest some awesome additions like a custom locking jewelry drawer, storage for my headband collection, overhead and interior lighting and much more. I loved getting to visit the showroom in downtown Edmond to discuss wood colors, hardware options, cabinet fronts and much more.
Jerrie was so patient and she walked me through lots of potential combinations. It was so nice to be able to compare several different design options she customized specifically for my “feature” wall. It was so hard to make a final selection since all of her options were spot on to what I needed! But in the end, I decided to select the concept that allowed for plenty of hanging space for dresses, two valet rods, lots of drawer storage and custom light kit paired with crown molding. I couldn’t wait for the installation to take place and see it all come to life! Jerrie truly made the design and selection process so easy and ensured every detail was perfect!
California Closets Installation Day
Now for installation day! As soon as I saw the California Closets truck pull up in my driveway it definitely seemed like Christmas! I couldn’t wait to see the behind the scenes of the process and share it with you all too. I can’t say enough good things about the talented CC team member that installed my closet! He was so friendly and make sure every detail was perfect! He has been installing California Closets designs for years and I loved popping in here and there throughout the day to watch the process. He was so nice to let me tape a time lapse video of the installation process too! He even got done ahead of the scheduled time and left the area cleaner than it was originally. As soon as I walked in to my studio and saw the completed wall I was stunned! It was even more beautiful than I had anticipated. It was so perfect! The team truly went above and beyond!
Overview of Features
Now for an overview of some of the features Jerrie from California Closets Oklahoma designed in my space. California Closets offers an endless combination of hardware options, storage features, woodwork colors, lighting options, trim and much more.
1. White Woodwork
I selected a classic white finish for my entire closet unit. I love how bright and fresh it is! Jerrie provide me with sample pieces for me to hold up in my space so I could decide which color I liked best based on layout, natural lighting, etc. It has just a hint of a sheen finish which I love!
2. Custom Headband Drawer
I love how my custom acrylic accessory drawers dividers came out! I have all my headbands perfectly organized and ready to wear now – plus room for lots more! These acrylic drawer organized can be used for scarves, socks, T-shirts and so much more!
3. Gold Hardware
I love all things gold when it comes to hardware and fixtures. Lindsay used these same acrylic and satin brass handles in her space and I liked them so much it was any easy decision to use them too!
4. Glass Front Doors
My closet design uses 5-piece white Shaker drawer fronts along with framed clear glass doors. I just love the combination! It gives the closet a dressed up look without being too fancy.
5. Gold Valet Rods
As far as accessories go, Jerrie added in matte gold fluted poles along with matte gold valet rods. They add the perfect touch of glam! The valet rods are so useful when it comes to displaying outfits that I’m taking photos in soon or steaming things to get ready for photos too.
6. Custom Jewelry Drawer
Now for the details on my custom jewelry drawer! This drawer features a magnetic lock and a gray micro suede jewelry insert with an acrylic jewelry tray on top. It gives me so much storage! I just love seeing all of my favorite jewelry items in one place. The soft close hinges are such a nice feature too.
7. Custom Lighting with Remote Control
Now for all about the lighting! My design features vertical ribbon lighting in all the clear glass door cabinets. It also features an overhead extended light box with cool and dimmable lighting on a remote control. I love that I can use the lights during the day but also at night time for lots of extra light while I work at my table.
8. Crown Molding
I selected traditional crown molding to run to the ceiling which helps elongate the closet height even more. They have lots of molding options available but I felt this option was the best for the theme of my space.
9. Custom Depth of Cabinets
California Closets is able to design any depth you’d like for your custom cabinets! I decided to go with 22 inches deep so that there would be room for my clothes to not peak over the bulkheads. I just love that we added this feature in!
I am just so thrilled with how it all came together! I can’t thank the California Closets team enough for helping make my closet dreams come true! Decor + Furniture Overview
Now for a bit more about my studio space from a decor perspective! Since my office area is 24 feet long, I knew from the start that I wanted half of it to be more of a living room type space with a couch and console table and the other half to be focused on my closet wall and work area. I am so grateful for the oh so creative and talented ladies from Live Original Creative Interiors that helped me brainstorm how to decorate a completely blank slate! They were also so beneficial during the initial building phase to help me think about lighting location, electric outlet placement, flow in the space and much more. If you are local to the OKC or Edmond area {or beyond} you definitely need to reach out to them! Their interior design and project renovation portfolio is so impressive!
For the first half of the space, I really wanted it to feel inviting and cozy while still having a touch of French chic vibes. I have always wanted an Anthropoglie Primrose Mirror so I purchased it as a present to myself last December when they had an fabulous discount going on. It adds the perfect touch to the entry way area! This neutral console was a great match with my flooring plus is very affordable.
This couch from World Market is a great size and is very comfortable. I love that it comes with a matching ottoman that can always attach to the couch to make it a sectional. It is a tad darker in person that it appears online but overall I like the neutral shade that won’t show dirt as much as if I had gone with solid white which was my original idea.
Now for my closet side of the room! I have been eyeing this gorgeous marble table since it came out and I knew it would be perfect to place under my shell + gold chandelier! These coordinating chairs no longer come in tan but they are still available in gray. I found this blush velvet bench at Walmart for a great price! This 30×40 painting is very affordable too. I added two neutral rugs for a layered look as well.
And of course I can’t forget these stunning Kendra Scott accessory holders! I love the gold paired with acrylic. They look so chic and on trend. Plus who doesn’t love displaying their accessories in style?
